Not
all composite decking solves the insect, mold and durability
problems common to softwood decking. Many composites contain 50%
wood fiber or more, which makes them susceptible to some of the
same problems. To try and prevent this, wood-based composites
use preservatives and biocides. But, this only delays the
inevitable. Terratec Naturals avoids these problems all together
without adding chemicals thanks to rice hulls.

Rice hulls
contain virtually no digestible nutrients, which means insects
aren’t interested. And because they have high silica content,
Terratec Naturals decking is more resistant to moisture. Rice
hulls also make a stronger deck board that performs equally well
in cold or hot climates. When you think about the environment
they grow in, it only makes sense that they would be able to
stand up to Mother Nature.
